Muhlenberg College in Allentown is current showing work by New York-based photographer/architect Christopher Payne at their Martin Art Gallery. The exhibition, titled Asylum: Inside the Closed World of State Mental Hospitals, is made up of photographs from Payne's exploration of 70 mental institutions across the United States from 2002 and 2008. He released a book of the work about a year ago that is absolutely brilliant - I'll try to remember to bring it in next class. As someone who is moderately obsessed with abandoned stuff and architecture in general, I'm a big fan of this body of work and Payne's photography overall.
He's giving a talk at Muhlenberg this Wednesday night at 7pm... but I probably shouldn't recommend going, as we have class. The show is up until February 26th. If you like photographs, GO SEE THIS SHOW.
Oh, we're going there!
